What is S-O-L?

A micro-blog developed in Django - popular python web-framework.

Why did I create it?

Over lunch, one day, my boss quietly asked if it is possible to create an internal Orkut/Twitter kind of application. Having wanted to learn web programming, I took it up as a challenge and I did it - over the weekend.

Why Django?

Having known Python, I decided to use a Python web framework. Django being popular, I chose to do in that. Written more about in A distant dream comes true with Django.

What does SOL mean?

As it is a micro-blog, I wanted a name that represents tiny/small and conversation in one of the Indian Languages. SOL is a Tamil word for conversation and it is just three letters. Sol also means costa-del-sol, a fine beach in Spain.
